Although the table was varnished, it was not necessary for it to be sanded, as chalk paint can be painted onto varnish as long as it is clean. I just wiped it around with white spirit.
The paint I used was Rust Oleum Chalky Finish. The draw pulls were removed and I painted it with two coats of chalk paint, the first coat was Fire Brick [dark red] with a top coat of Sage Green [green].
I think my favourite part of this piece of furniture is the draw pull, made from a jewellery finding from an old necklace. [I can’t believe at times, the things I collect, just as well my hobby only requires small items.]
As a finishing touch, I sanded and waxed the draw, and lined it with green sticky back felt.
